My Home

Google just published an API interface to their wonderful maps. This allows you to put their maps on your own webpages and do nifty things with it. Click on the red marker.!! You can zoom in and out and pan seamlessly using AJAX. Totally sweet!!! It has been a long time since I was last in goa. Beer, beach, fenny, vindaloo, pomfrets and mangoes!!!.

Update: I got a new API key for the permalink URL so now you should be able to see the maps on both pages. Also the sea side image is prefetched, so you it should appear quickly after you click the red marker. Internet exploiter has some issues displaying this page. I shall take a look at it.

Update 2: IE has a strange race condition when you try to modify the DOM using javascript inside a table. So I had to use a timeout to start the google map a little after the table was rendered. “Bad IE, no cookies for you”.

That sure took you a while :-) . You’ve known it for at least 4 hours.
So, there’s no way to get rid of the error message?

Well, it took me a couple of hours to figure out how to do this, because of a bug in google’s satellite rendering. I had to figure it out on my own and I didnt know about this google group.

There is a way to get rid of the error message, by generating a new key and having a javascript routine to parse location.href and send the appropriate key depending on which url the post is being viewed from. However I think google will fix the key system eventually. It has several problems.
